Tottenham’s manager has revealed that he thinks that the UEFA Champions League is overrated to a certain extent by footballers in the modern era as the North London club face a tough summer in their efforts to hold onto their
star players who want to play in the Champions League with other clubs...
Harry Redknapp has come out and made it clear that the UEFA Champions League is overrated by footballers these days after Tottenham Hotspur failed to make it into Europe’s foremost club competition despite finishing fourth in the
Premier League table. In normal circumstances, Tottenham would have been guaranteed a place in the earlier stages of the UEFA Champions League but due to Chelsea’s win in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, Tottenham’s spot will now go to the
Blues who will enter the competition next season as defending champions.
With Chelsea now taking up their spot in the competition, a lot of the players at Tottenham such as the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 have issued calls regarding their ambition to play in the UEFA Champions League, a development
that has made life harder for Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane.
The former West Ham manager is increasingly sounding like someone who has had sour grapes as he said, "I think it's overrated what people say about Champions League football and whatever. People would have still gone to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786
if they hadn't won the Champions League this year because they know it's a club that's looking to get into the Champions League positions next year.”
He added, "They pay fantastic money. If you pay players enough money and you give them good enough contracts and you show that you're ambitious, they'll come to your club. Champions League football, because you don't make it one
year - its one year.”
Money does play a role to a certain extent but top players in today’s football want to make their name in the UEFA Champions League by playing week in and week out against players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 and testing themselves
in doing so, an opportunity that can only be present at clubs who compete in the Champions League.
