Harry Redknapp strengthens his case for the England job (Part 1)
When the English national team suffered their humiliating dismissal from the FIFA 2010 World Cup at German hands in the Round-of-16, Fabio Capello’s job was under threat as the media pressure piled on FA to part ways with the Italian tactician.
In reality, Capello’s performance as the English national team’s coach in FIFA 2010 World Cup was nothing short of abysmal. After the expectation inflammation that was caused by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s highly successful qualification campaign for the 2010 World Cup, it
was natural that the fans were left disgruntled by England’s lifeless displays in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757.
Regardless of what happened in the World Cup, FA kept their faith in Capello as it was decided by a mutual agreement that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 would lead the English national team to the European Championships in 2012 and then retire blissfully after that.
When this announcement came out in the early days of the 2010/2011 club football season, several successors were mentioned by the British media but Harry Redknapp’s name topped the list.
Last season, Redknapp led Tottenham Hotspurs to a fourth place finish in the English Premier League and in doing so the ex-West Ham manager fired them to the heights of the UEFA Champions League.
This season, Redknapp has been impervious yet again. Tottenham’s ex-manager has been busy in shattering the stereotypes that English managers are basically useless when it comes to tactics in European football.
In the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, Redknapp ushered Tottenham to a marvelous home win against Inter Milan as the Londoners qualified as the top ranked team in their group.
Not only that, in their away tie at San Siro against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 hat-trick but in the end, Inter Milan concluded the match as deserved
winners by four goals to three.
Lately, in the knock out stages of the UEFA Champions League, Harry Redknapp has been working his magic yet again. In Tottenham’s first leg of their Round-of-16 tie against AC Milan at San Siro, the Englishman led his club to a historical one goal win over
the Italian league leaders.
Moreover, Tottenham dominated the match with effortless possession football. Redknapp’s tactics worked like a charm as AC Milan failed to assert themselves on the match even after Massimiliano Allegri introduced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Pato-c4901 into the game in the second
half of the match.
In all honesty, no one expected Harry to outthink Allegri. Shattering of stereotypes is one thing but demolition of 7 times European Cup winners is totally another feat.
Tottenham’s 4-4-1-1 system was put up against Milan’s 4-3-1-2 setup and in the end, it wasn’t even a contest. Tottenham utilized their width so well that AC Milan was forced into submission in the end.
Even Gattuso cried sour grapes and Flamini sighed a breathe of relief after escaping a sure shot red card while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 and Co. remained composed and humble in the victory.
In doing so, the English club recognized the task at hand. They will have to host AC Milan at White Hart Lane on 9th of March but a statement has already been laid down by Redknapp’s team which reads “Tottenham should not be taken easily”.
