Harry Redknapp wants to bring Aston Villa’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953 to White Hart Lane – EPL news
Tottenham Hotspur boss, Harry Redknapp, has revealed his interest in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper, Brad Friedel. The manager insisted that current Spurs keeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heurelho-Gomes-c16173, will stay their first choice and Friedel could provide the best back up.
Gomes, on the other hand, hasn’t been able to perform up to the expectations and has come under heavy criticism off late. Redknapp has defended his shot-stopper and believed that the Brazilian is an extraordinary keeper and there is nothing wrong with his
form. He insisted that Gomes is just going through a turbulent phase in his career and will rise up to the occasion the next time he takes the field.
40-year-old Friedel is also being tracked by English Premier League duo, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion. Spurs are in search of another experienced keeper and several other names have been linked with the North London club. The three names that are strongly
lingering in Spurs camp are: Birmingham City’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998.
Further speaking about Friedel’s possible recruitment, the former Portsmouth manager said, "He's a very good keeper, but there are a few clubs in for him. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are in for him, West Brom too. It's interesting. We'll have to see where we go. I think he's
[Gomes] made saves that he's had no right to make, some incredible saves that only a keeper of his quality could make."
On the other hand, Villa’s assistant manager, Gary McAllister, has urged Friedel to stay at the Villa Park. Gary believes that the American has been superb throughout the season and Villa would never want to sell the veteran.
He concluded by saying, "Taking into consideration the type of season this has been for us then Brad has been a fantastic pro and he's also been a very good keeper. The offer of a new contract is a reward for what he's done, and we certainly hope this is
not his farewell, otherwise we wouldn't be offering it to him.”
Tottenham Hotspur have ended their 2010/11 campaign at the fifth spot with 62 points and have qualified for next year’s UEFA Europa League. Villa on the other hand, finished ninth in this year’s campaign.
