Harry Redknapp's second-in-command at Tottenham Hotspur backs him for English manager job
Harry Redknapp, Tottenham’s manager has been touted by many as the next English manager but his latest endorsement comes from his second-in-command at Spurs, Kevin Bond. Bond spoke to the press before his team’s encounter against Blackburn at the White Hart
Lane. The current manager of English national team, Fabio Capello is set to part ways with the three lions after the European Championships of 2012.
After England’s abysmal performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Redknapp was in line to take over from Capello but F.A. offered the Italian manager extension till the EURO 2012 tournament. Redknapp himself has admitted that it will be a hard task
to turn down the English national team job, an employment opportunity that is seen by many as the toughest in the world. Bond spoke in his press conference as he said, "I definitely think that he can do it.”
Redknapp and Bond have worked together for the past 20 years, as both the Englishmen have worked together at clubs like Bournemouth and Portsmouth. Adding to his comments, Bond stated, "Harry is a winner. He can be difficult when things aren't going well.
He doesn't like getting beaten and when we are not getting results. We sit in the car for hours and if we talk about something other than football, within five minutes, we will be back to it. He absolutely lives for it. He is all-consumed by the game - his
wife will tell you that - and he won't change."
Explaining his friend’s qualities, Bond went on to say, "The qualities that he has brought here: played players in their best positions, where possible, gets the best out of them." Redknapp has gained more credibility over the past three months as he guided
his team to a terrific start in the UEFA Champions League. Tottenham Hotspurs defeated Inter Milan recently at the White Hart Lane by three goals to one, in doing so they have all but virtually qualified for the next round of the prestigious European competition.
Tottenham now enter into their most crucial stage of the season till now as they face Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in their next half a dozen Premier League games. Not only that they also play Werder Bremen and F.C. Twente in the UEFA Champions League
as well. Favourable results in these upcoming matchups can do the trick for Harry and his team for their run-in into the new-year.
Tottenham’s assistant manager spoke about his team’s chances in the future as he said, "What will shape our season is where we finish at the end of the season after the 38 games that we play. Don't get me wrong: every game is vitally important, and it is
a difficult run of matches. But we can only get on with Blackburn, do the best we can, hopefully get a positive result against Blackburn, and then we'll put our thoughts towards Arsenal next week."
Last season, Spurs defeated Arsenal and Chelsea in the English Premier League after losing their F.A. Cup semi-final to Portsmouth. The loss to Portsmouth only acted as a catalyst for the Spurs who went on to secure a 4th place finish in the final
Premier League standings of 2010-2011.
Bond concluded by saying, "We were all bitterly disappointed when we lost at Wembley against Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi-final. We wanted badly to get through to the final, we didn't and then we were faced with Arsenal and Chelsea after that, two almighty
games that could have shaped our season."
Harry Redknapp has managed sides such as West Ham United, Southampton, Portsmouth and now Tottenham in the English league. He does have a good understanding of the English players and the setup in place at F.A. but it all remains to be seen how the whole
scenario will unfold after the 2012 European Championships that are scheduled to be held in Poland and Ukraine.
