Hart Trophy candidate Corey Perry reminisces about 2010-2011 regular Season and playoffs –NHL Update
There are numerous awards that go out during the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Awards’ ceremony at the end of every season. The Hart Trophy is most likely the most prestigious of the awards because it recognises a player for being the Most Valuable Player
(MVP) in the league, other than just being position specific.
The Art Ross Trophy is given to the player with the most points, Conn Smythe Trophy for the playoff’s best player, Vezina Trophy for the best goalie, but it is the Hart Trophy that signifies overall greatness and is not position-specific.
Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks’ right winger, is one of the players whose abilities have graced the NHL and are bound for greatness.
At a mere age of 26, Perry has achieved what most veterans have not. He led his team into the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season this year.
Ducks was struggling in the final moments of the season and scored 19 goals and added 11 assists in the final 16 games to enter the playoffs at the fourth position above a number of experienced teams like defending Stanley Cup champions, Chicago Blackhawks.
"I think it was one of those things where you get on a roll and things just go your way", Perry said Tuesday at the Palms Casino, the site of Wednesday’s 2011 NHL Awards show. "You can’t go out and plan on doing that. You just go out and do your thing, and
it was a quite a good roll that that happened in the last month and a half. It was fun".
Perry is up against some tough competitors, Henrik Sedin from Vancouver Canucks and Martin St. Louis of Tampa Bay Lightning. Both are also great players in their respective fields and are true leaders.
Even if the young forward does not win the cup, he is certainly excited about the upcoming season.
"Hopefully I can carry it over to next season", Perry said. "You want to build on what you did the season before. Going into the new season, I’m looking forward to it".
The 2011 NHL Awards are scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
