Hartford Hawks score home victory against Holy Cross Crusaders - Volleyball
The Women’s Volleyball Team of Hartford University swept the feet of Holy Cross ladies on Wednesday, September 7. The Reich Family Pavilion in West Hartford Connecticut was the match venue, where two renowned team of the NCAA contested their spike and block
skills. The Hawks simply amazed the audience by quick finish of the game in three sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-16 and 25-21).
The rookie Sareeta Nethersole played an instrumental role in Hawks’ victory. She became the centre of attention in the match as she got her career-high 12 kills, additionally with a hitting percentage of .429. Sareeta was pretty much accurate in hitting
the ball in right spots. However, she committed three errors in a total of 21 attack attempts. Her sister Junior Kami Nethersole and Senior Lindsay Makowicki also contributed to the overall success of their team. Both of them supported the Hawks with 10 points
apiece.
Junior Megan Lynch of Crusaders collected eight kills. She couldn’t lead her team to success but she set a record of the highest number of kills (903) in her school history. Freshman Hannah Grce Strokes and Junior Elizabeth Watters each tallied six digs
in the match.
Home team of Hartford Hawks was playing at the familiar court and nothing less was expected from them. They served well and quickly gained a solid spot in the game. They influenced the opponents through quick delivery of solid spikes. Their passing between
players was an extra edge for them. The Crusaders couldn’t stand on their feet and dropped some of the easy shots. First set slipped from their hands as they lagged behind with a deficit of 9 points 25-16.
Hawks kept their grip on the ball in the following set and didn’t allow Crusaders to hinder their performance. The Nerthersole sisters received huge applause for putting up such great volleyball action. Hawks comfortably captured second set with identical
score of 25-16 and jumped into the third set. With a better display of tactful game, they secured third set and declared match victory.

The Hartford Hawks will surely use the confidence in their next match against Navy Midshipmen at the Hartford/Quinnipiac Invitational. The cracking fight of these two teams is scheduled to be staged on Friday, September 9. Furthermore, the Hartford squad
will put up against Delaware State and La Salle at the weekend. They are enjoying a great form and seem determined to give out a good performance in the upcoming matches.
Likewise, the Crusaders will try to seize their chances against Harvard Smithfield in the next match on Friday. The action will be continued as they will take on teams from Maryland-Eastern Shore and Bryant on Saturday. It will be a fair chance for Holy
Cross to cover the deficit.
