Question:

Hartz 3-in-one drops for kittens?

My mom picked us up some Hartz flea drops for my 4 month old kitten the other day and put it on him Sunday. I know it's only tuesday but he's still got fleas. Am I expecting too much too soon to hope the fleas are gone? I'm getting anxious and I don't know what else to do. I've given him flea baths and they still don't seem to go away. I have no money to bring him to the vets at the moment until work picks up. Is there anything that isn't too pricey that I can buy for the time being? Is this stuff ever going to work? And are there any natural ways of killing fleas? Please help!

  1. UGH HARTZ is bad!! it has caused bad things to happen to cats, much less kittens..BE CAREFUL  best to use front line or advantage, dont use hartz again, please.. here is what I did..

How I got rid of fleas and bugs from my home

You will need to purchase a simple bug/fly zapper; the type you use on a patio to kill flying insects.  You can buy a small one that will cover a large area of your house at most home improvement stores for as little as 15.00-20.00 dollars.  For faster results you can use one bug zapper for each room.  However the fleas do gravitate to the bug zapper’s light once night sets in and all the lights in your house are out. So one should work for a small home, just make sure to place it in the room where the most fleas are seen or felt.   Place the zapper on the floor in a corner behind a piece of furniture so kids and pets won’t play with or bother it. Set it on a plate or pie tin for easy cleaning up of the zapped bugs, you will be killing all bugs in your home as well, and then plug it in.  Remember, it is a piece of electrical equipment.  You have to use caution in where you put it. At night the fleas automatically want to go to a light, when they hop in to the bug zapper light they get fried! You can actually hear little, zits, zits when the fleas are getting zapped! All GONE! Keep the carpet vacuumed daily until your flea problem is under control, this will help tremendously in getting the fleas eggs out of your home and carpet faster!!  I am not responsible for misuse of the above item.  Use full caution in placing your bug zapper to the safest place.  It will work for months, even years; it will continue to kill bugs in your home as long as the light is on.  The bulb can be replaced once it burns out.  The light bulb can be purchased at most home improvement stores.

  2. Yikes - I'm surprised your kitten is even still ALIVE after using Hartz on it!  Hartz products are regularly recalled because they contain harsh pesticides that have killed lots of pets - http://www.hartzvictims.org

Why did you get a kitten if you can't afford something as basic as safe and effective flea control?  For under $50 you could buy four months worth of Advantage at 800petmeds.com.  Has this kitten EVER seen a vet?  Has it gotten it shots?  Have you gotten it neutered?  And what happens if this kittens gets very sick or injured?  Will you be yet another person coming on here asking what they can do "other than go to a vet"????

The best thing for this kitten would be for it to be surrendered to a shelter so that someone with the means to care for it can adopt it.  Pet ownership is a RESPONSIBILITY not a right.  If you can't afford a pet, you shouldn't have one.

  3. uh, would the zapper be a fire hazard?

you get the same result from a dish of soapy water in front of the tv at night.  the bugs will jump into the water since the light will reflect off the bubbles.

A single treatment of advantage or similar product will cost about 12 bucks.  I would talk to your vet about it and when you can put it on since you have already used hartz.  hartz is a terrible product, but if your kitten hasn't shown any side effects, then he is okay.  aside from the fleas.  NEVER mix topical flea products.  it will hurt or kill your cat.

The easiest way to get rid of fleas is to treat your yard for fleas with a spray.  Treat your house for fleas with a spray (no foggers, they don't get under furniture) and treat your cat with a spot on treatment from the vet.  No appointment is needed for flea treatments.

you can also get a flea collar, but not for the cat.  Put it in the vacuum bag.  any fleas that you vacuum up (do it daily) should be Killed in the bag.

  4. Hartz is BAD. I had a flea problem and bought a crapload then did some research and discovered how BAD Hartz is. I bought Frontline for my cats and dog from E-bay. They are the exact same as the ones sold from the vets, for a fraction of the price.

You buy a kit from a respected buyer on Ebay, they send you an extra large dosage meant for a very big dog. It will have instructions on how much to give for a cat, and you use the syringe they give you and put it on the back of the cats neck. Works wonders. Worth the little bit of extra money as Hartz is just terrible. Good luck with your flea problem.

Also, vacuum CONSTANTLY. Everywhere. Wash everything. Fleas are a pain in the butt, I don't envy you lol.

  5. 1. hartz is possibly the worst product ever for flea prevention.

    2. flea baths are never 100% they may kill the fleas that are already on him (not even all of them)

3.you can pick up something like frontline or advantage from your veterinarian without actually having to have an exam or anything like that. it'll run you close to 50$ if not more, but you will know that it will be 100% effective. also don't try to buy these products at a pet store or a pet pharmacy like 1800petmeds just cause they are cheaper. there's a huge problem with counterfeit products and you will probably end up with something counterfeit and the same flea problem

  6. hartz is baaaaaaaad..  it does not work.  go buy some really good flea shampoo at the pet store.  splurge, and get the good stuff this once.  it will last and it works.

  7. In my personal opinion, I wouldn't do anything with a Hartz Mountain product but bury it ten feet underground. Honey, they have things for sale in the supermarkets that have killed a lot of cats. And as for their flea collars, the flea has to trip over it and break its neck before you see any results. You asked if there was anything "natural" and I know of nothing that works effectively. Since you have a kitten, I will mention that a cat rescue I used to volunteer at had super success bathing kittens, including kittens much younger than yours, with Avon's Skin So Soft. It was very effective, but remember that if you kitty goes outside, it will get reinfected with fleas.  And, you need to treat your house for fleas too, but please just buy something at a vet's office and forget the stuff in the supermarkets. You don't have to take your kitty to the veterinarian to buy something for the home.

  8. Please NEVER use HARTZ!!

i made the mistake and used it on my dog

he was so less energetic and yet had seizurez

and it can kill your cat if it gets to it

it can do so many bad things to your cat.

if you google HARTZ you'll see.

so many people wanna sue them.

    hope i helped you.
