Haruka Ueda excels in Women's 200m freestyle heats: Day one – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Tokyo
Haruka Ueda of Japan excelled in the qualifying rounds of Women's 200m freestyle on primary day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday, November 12.
Tokyo is the final stage of the seven-stop World Cup series, scheduled by the international aquatics sport governing body, Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA).
The 23-year-old Ueda displayed her commendable effort in the preliminary rounds to reach the final as top finest swimmer. Her efforts were challenged by Blair Evans of Australia but the Japanese showed her eagerness towards the top qualifying spot.
Ueda took charge of the race in the start, where she completed her first round with a phenomenal timing of 27.30 seconds. She remained just 0.09 seconds ahead of Australia's Merindah Dingjan, who covered the same distance in a time of 27.39 seconds.
The Japanese demonstrated her exhausting efforts in the next round and completed her first half of the race in a time of 56.69 seconds. She was trailed by Dingjan, who remained just 0.04 seconds slower and ended her first half in a time of 56.73 seconds.
Evans surfaced as the third finest swimmer as she concluded her initial half with an effort of 57.46 seconds.
Dingjan presented her ruthless efforts in third round but she failed to overwhelm Ueda's commendable efforts. The Japanese continued her dominance and completed her third round with a timing of 1 minute and 26.67 seconds.
Subsequently, Dingjan remained 0.15 seconds behind her strongest competitor and covered the equivalent distance in a time of 1 minute and 26.82 seconds. She was chased by Evans, who reported a time of 1 minute and 27.64 seconds for the equivalent distance.
Finally, Ueda concluded her final round with a timing of 29.57 seconds to submit 1 minute and 56.24 seconds for top qualification spot. Evans's astounding efforts in the final round enabled her to secure second best qualification spot and she reported a
time of 1 minute and 56.66 seconds.
Similarly, Hanae Itou of Japan overwhelmed Dingjan's effort in the final round by producing a time of 1:57.23 minutes as compared to her effort of 1:57.28 minutes.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled events while these swimmers will compete with each other in today's second session to earn a podium finish.
