Haruki Washio clinches Boys 400m freestyle gold – 2012 NCSA/Itoman Allstar Meet
Haruki Washio of Itoman clinched gold medal of the Boys 400m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 NCSA/Itoman Allstar Meet at the Golden West Swim Club in Golden West College on Friday, September 21.
Washio, who qualified into the playoff as second best swimmer, demonstrated his gruelling efforts in second final of the event as he overpowered his opponents in a comfortable manner and tapped the wall for gold medal.
Washio served notice of his talent in the eight-lap freestyle discipline as he earned his way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking an effort of 3 minutes and 58.24 seconds.
The champion was followed by Ikuya Matsumura of Itoman, who stayed 5.12 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as second best finisher by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 03.36 seconds.
Matsumura was traced by Hiroshi Watahiki of Itoman, who remained one body length behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 04.53 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Chris Grimmett-Norris of NCSA, who suffered a loss of nearly four body lengths over his former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 08.94 seconds.
Grimmett-Norris was followed by Benjamin N Southern of NCSA, who was 1.36 seconds behind and occupied fifth position of the race by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 10.30 seconds.
Subsequently, Southern was followed by Evan G Rude of NCSA, who remained 1.23 seconds behind and submitted a time of 4 minutes and 11.53 seconds for sixth position.
Rude was traced by Robert S McHugh of NCSA, who stayed 0.98 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 12.51 seconds.
Reo Sakata of Itoman was disqualified from the race due to an improper turn and failed to grab any position.
In addition, Washio received huge appreciation from the audience for his scintillating efforts in the mediocre distant freestyle event and raked medal for his accomplishment at the victory ceremony of the event.
