Harvest Moon 64 rom - help with carpenter?

Question

I'm playing harvest moon 64 on an emulator and I can't seem to get the carpenter/craftsman to let me upgrade my home.

When the shop is open he only talks about the river and tells me to take care of myself, but never gives me the option to order an extention.

I figure its a glitch.

Can anyone tell me what to do, or how to fix it , if possible?

Its not a glitch, go to the back wall and hit A next to the white list on the wall, a list of possible upgrades comes up, select one and he will schedule it to begin.
