Harvest Moon Island of Happiness: Fishing Rod?

Hey- does anyone out there know how I can obtain a fishing rod from Natsume's: Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness?

I heard from somewhere that I'm suppose to recieve it from Taro by giving him gifts for a whole week... But he never takes them. All he says is something like: "I'm good, don't worry." Or something like that...

Please help. ><

  1. That's just a polite reaction ^^. What you have to do is talking to him for a couple of days until he becomes friendly with you. So he will accept your gifts. Good luck !!!

  2. This is a mistake I also made and had to correct on my own. I hadn't thought of looking for walkthroughs or checking yahoo answers. How dumb of me.

Anyway, you were correct in hearing you get the fishing pole from Taro. All characters have warm up time periods. For the first three days of knowing them DO NOT try to give them presents. You have to give them a chance to warm up to you before they will begin to accept your gifts. If you try to give them presents within the warm up time period, it will restart as if it were the day you met them. AFter the three day time period, give Taro the grasses (not like the green grassweeds you find on your farm- the almost heart shaped ones) you find around town. Any color will do. While they are not his favorite item, nor an item he really likes, they are liked items. You will earn 300FP for each you give him. you have enough Friend Points (2000 or more), Taro will visit you in the morning if the weather is Sunny, Clear, or Cloudy, and give you a free fishing pole.

The fishing pole comes at a standard level and has no room for Wonderfuls. Meaning it's power cannot be increased as it could be in other games. So no need to worry about upgrades.

    GOOD LUCK :D

  3. You won't start out with a fishing pole. You can get one from Taro. Talk to him for a few days until he begins to accept your gifts, and then give him gifts every day. When you have enough Friend Points (2000 or more), Taro will visit you in the morning if the weather is Sunny, Clear, or Cloudy, and give you a free fishing pole.
