Question:

Has America become a Gynocentric society?

In a society in which opinion and perception is largely shaped by the media, demographers gear their attention towards the 'Safety Mom' demographic (single women aged between 25 to 50), and men are largely portrayed as incompetent, bumbling oafs, or violent criminals.

While domestic violence against women and child abuse has gone down in the past few decades, reporting of violence perpetrated by men against women and children has only skyrocketed.

Also, gender-based programs almost entirely benefit only women. Abused men are consistently being refused shelter from VAWA funded abuse shelters. Over 250,000 men require serious medical help a year for abuse at the hands of their wives/girlfriends, and these men are almost always expected to leave their residences for the safety of their abusers.

Why are men being ignored in our society while women become a privileged class, and what will be the backlash?

  1. Cite your sources please. Also, instead of whining on the Internet why not open your own shelter for battered men.

Explain how gender specific education only benefits women? Again, cite your sources please. If this is true, wouldn't gender specific education with a male bias only benefit men?

Battered women routinely abandon their homes, friends and property in order to get away from their abuses. It's the trade off of wanting to LIVE.

You're a troll so there's really no point in systematically debunking everyone of your straw man claims.

    Good day to you, sir!

  2. Women are a privileged class, huh? That must be why the U.S. Congress and all Fortune 1000 boards of directors are still mostly male.

Isn't it funny how you can see bias clearly when you are absolutely determined to see it?

  3. Moot's real name is Christopher Poole.

  4. Its more of a media perception Hearing about it gets the public's attention so everyone milks it for all its worth. In our society today I personally have seen people be drawn to something that has caused someone else s pain. Its something interesting to talk about. Sorta like in fights in today's High Schools. As for the men I don't know, but i had no clue it was that many.

  5. Single women aged 25-50 buy a LOT of stuff.  Name any product, even things stereotypically popular with men (home and auto improvement), and you will find women in that demographic buying it for themselves, for their families, for their friends, for their significant others.  They buybuybuy, so it's only practical to sellsellsell to them.

Violence against women and children perpetuated by men has gone down, but is still too prevalent.  Violence against men is also overwhelmingly perpetuated by other men.  Especially in the case of sexual assault, which in the case of all demographics, male, female, and children, is mostly committed by adult men, and is vastly under-reported.  If you're in the U.S., check out the Bureau of Justice Statistics website to get some numbers on these things.

As for abuse, many men are afraid to do admit to it, to face the scorn of admitting they could have been killed by a usually much smaller woman.  And a lot of that scorn comes from their fellow men - most police officers are male.  Say they respond to a report of a couple fighting - they take a look at a tiny woman with a black eye, her boyfriend twice her size who had to hit her to keep her from stabbing him in the neck with a letter opener, but there's not a mark on him.  They make a practical judgment call.  It's not a fair call, but based on the evidence they have to work with, what do you expect them to believe?

And yes, there should be more shelters for men.  I wait patiently for someone to present a Violence Against Men Act, since more men are victims of violence than women (from other men).  Has this happened yet? If it has and been rejected, then yes, that's a big problem.  If it hasn't, men need to get on it.

  6. Good point. If it was any way patriarchal you would never have crazy laws like VAWA that totally discriminate against men. Check this out:

"VAWA says, “The term ‘domestic violence'' includes felony or misdemeanor crimes of violence committed by a current or former spouse of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabitating with or has cohabitated with the victim as a spouse …”

    The Loophole

The term, “includes,” is being used as a loophole. Law enforcement officials have been using this loophole to implement statutes allowing people to claim domestic violence or obtain restraining orders if they are merely “afraid” or “fearful” of violence.

Now, 63 percent of all states define domestic violence so that it includes psychological distress, and 33 percent include “harassment.”

Former president of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Elaine Epstein, said, “Everyone knows that restraining orders and orders to vacate are granted to virtually all who apply … in many cases, allegations of abuse are now used for tactical advantage" http://www.onlinelawyersource.com/news/f...
