News is nothing but sound-bites (and "...quote...")today. I admit to being guilty of this addiction at times, because it is easy on the ears. I see a lot of soundbites being quoted on Y!A...

Reading whole speeches gives context to sound-bites and can drastically change their meaning.

Sound-bites are the definition of media "spin"

  1. Most Americans are not interested in substance they just want to get the general idea and move on with their days, this is where the sound bites come into play. News stations know that they can hold a single viewer for so long so the more they sensationalize and give just enough where a person can get an idea (however wrong) is as much as they are interested in doing.

    If you ever take into consideration very rarely do news programs show a whole speech, before jumping to pregnant teenagers and celebrity babies.


  2. it always was, most people are too busy or lazy to read or to listen to speeches. But history shows it has always been that way.

  3. Ooo i HATE soundbites and i never let them sway my opinion or perception of a person when i hear one on the news. The sound bites are chosen according to the context of the story and i dont agree with it .Good question!!
