  1. Well, what happens at the perinatologist's office depends on why you're going. Typically, you see a perinatologist if your regular Ob-Gyn has identified any potential problems that make your pregnancy high-risk for you or your baby. The perinatologist will give you a check-up to make sure everything else is ok, and then he or she will focus on the specific problem(s) that your regular Ob-Gyn has already identified.

I have an appointment with a perinatologist next week.  I'll be having a high-resolution scan of the baby's heart and another ultrasound to see if my placenta previa is correcting itself.  When I went for the 20-week ultrasound at my regular OB-Gyn's office, my doctor saw that I have placenta previa and she also saw a 'bright spot' on the baby's heart.  The heartbeat sounded very strong, and the baby is very active. But because the sonogram of the heart wasn't clear my doctor wants my to have a more detailed scan with a perinatologist. The perinatologist will analyze the scan, and she'll tell us whether everything is ok with my little girl - and if not, she'll recommend treatment. She'll also analyze the placenta and advise me on how to handle that situation.

best of luck to you today. :-)
