I haven't been on Easter, i was there in May and got there about 7:30 and had no problem getting a seat in the square.  I also was at Notre Dame cathedral two years ago on Easter and it was a great experience.

Tip: Buy your tickets to the Sistine Chapel at the Archaeological Museum and you can get in quickly without standing in line.  We walked right in and we only had to walk about three blocks to get the tickets. No 3 or 4 hour wait.

  We love Italy and Tuscany, such a beautiful country and the people are delightful once you engage them in a little conversation.  BUT don't wear shorts!!!

      They really dislike women or men in shorts.
