Has Anyone Been to Costa Rica?

Im Going there for a school filed trip, and i dont exactly know what to pack to prepare for the conditions tehre. we are going to be going on alot of hikes and nature stuff. but i still dont know what to bring. and is stuff alot cheaper down there than it is up here? how much money should i bring if im staying a week? is there anything i should make sure i see?

Clothing wise: Pack short-sleeved shirts and light pants for the hiking.  You will want to wear shorts, but because of the bugs and plants, wear longer pants.  Just make sure that they are easily washable because they will get muddy :-)  For shoes: I only wore flip flops when I was there because I hate regular shoes.  My roommates all swore by their tennis shoes.  So I don't know.  If you are all about the flip-flops, just pack those and wear them.  You'll be fine.  But if you prefer tennis shoes, then wear those.

Since you are going on a field trip, I can't really say how much money you should bring since I'm not sure what you are going to be doing.  I lived there at $500/month comfortably.  And that included some little side trips to different places.  But if all you are going to be doing is playing and eating out and stuff (all the fun things you do on vacation!  :-) ), then I would suggest bringing about $300 or more.  You don't want to be short when it comes to being able to participate in the fun stuff.

I went a few years ago for a school mission trip and had a blast! Definately pack alot of cotton tees or tank tops. Bring shorts, skirts or capris that are light weight. Also, flip flops are good for town but not hiking! Bring tennis shoes for that. "Stuff" tends to bea little cheaper there than here but not too drastic, try flea markets you can great jewelery and sarongs for a decent price. Learn the money conversion before you go so you know when or if someone is trying to rip you off. Everything in Costa Rica is beautiful especially their churches-detail like we have never seen!
