Has anyone here had a paranormal experience that they truly believed but later looked at it from a scientific perspective and changed your mind? And now believe that paranormal isn't real?

  1. I was fascinated by all things paranormal when I was young - the Bermuda triangle, spontaneous combustion, ESP, dowsing, the writings of Arthur Koestler, remote viewing, etc - but as I grew up and examined the evidence objectively, none of the events stood up to scrutiny.

  2. No. In fact since I have started coming here. Paranormal activity in my home has increased. I have had it round me all my life so I know it's real. I don't know what they are trying to say though. Maybe they don't like what I'm watching on TV as It's mainly that, that's going wonky. They keep turning it off/on, over up/down.

  3. I went the other direction.  I began as a true believer.  I have learned to think otherwise.

  4. Yes,  When I was a young and impressionable kid, I believed in the paranormal, ghosts, and such. . .

But as I grew older, I discovered that most people who hawked such things either were charlatans, had books to sell or some other money making scheme.

I have never found any evidence to support such "paranormal events."

    Hope this helps

  5. What do you mean by scientific perspective? Metaphysics is a science in this field and quantum physics justifies its possibility.

No I have not change my MIND. I don't have the "Skeptics Disease", and you know that is a bad disease in mental dis function. The Fear of always being right.

But no I have not changed my Mind. Because the evidence supporting it is overwhelming it depends on your level of awareness. I have the 5th level of awareness.

  6. I can't think of any one event.Sure as a kid I'd hear bumps in the night.Walking in a graveyard would make me feel weird. The hair would stand up on my neck once in awhile. My friends and I would tell tales and swear they were true.(That happens here a lot).Mostly though,it's just doing a little investigating.Every claim falls apart if you look at it close enough.I still look, but the real world is plenty interesting for me.

  7. Yes, many people have changed their mind about paranormal activity going in both directions.

Your last question can hardly be considered from a scientific perspective as that science first requires at least working definitions and paranormal is an umbrella term covering many phenomena. So, one can believe that ghost aren't real while still believing in alien space craft or ESP or any specific are of the paranormal.

Also, from a scientific perspective one doesn't conclude somethng is real or not but just believes or doesn't that the evidence supports it's existence. Of course what people choose to believe is based on many reasons some of them scientific and some of them not.

Yes, I used not to believe in ghost but examined my experience from a scientific perspective and determined that is far more likely that I experienced seeing a ghost (what ever that may be or the cause may be) something that others have reported since the beginning of human writing than a human being had the ability to turn invisible or teleport away without my seeing him.

So, I conclude based on scientific examination that my experience was real.

On the other hand I also had a dream that could be considered precognition (premonition) but upon examination concluded that it was possible while sleeping I acquired information through normal senses and incorporated that into my dream. I therefore do not believe that experience was paranormal but like all good scientist I do not dismiss all reports without investigations based on one specific case of a particular phenomena that is labeled paranormal.

  8. Well once I was watching Truth or Scare it was like trying to convince you out of beliveing in ghost's but it only put a small impact on me.

I have a story for you (Not about me)

One day there was a girl named Austinia (Last name kept from displaying on internet)

She was never as tall as the kids in her grade in grade 7 at 4 foot 3. She got made fun of alot and pushed around, and they called her pyshcho because people saw her talking to blank air.

there was one girl so called popular named Jessica--- With her lushish deep black hair whom loved to pick on poor Austinia. Jessica was tall and beautiful and loved to throw things at Austinia in her spare time.

One blue cloudy after noon in class the teacher asked Austinia a question the question was.

"What biome do we live in?"

Austinia replied "Carol, says Temperate forest"

Everyone just looked at Austinia and Jessica replied "Is that your imaginary freind talking to you again?" And everyone followed with a laugh

    "You're makeing her angry"

    "Loser"

    You're makeing her angry"

    "Loser"

After the 2nd loser reports saying someone swung a book at Jessica breaking her jaw. People report it was a poltergeist people in the class said it randomly picked itself up and threw it as Jessica. the whole class (21people) all the same described the girl standing outside the window after the incident they all described it the same.

    Ausitinia was never seen again

Hoped you liked the story :)

I believe in the paranormal :)

  9. Nope.

I have had many things that could be explained logically by common sense... However I have had things happen that no matter how hard you try it can't be duplicated. So my common sense tells me it is something else.

  10. Absolutely.  I started really getting into research and trying to investigate stuff when I was maybe 12.  At that age, EVERYTHING is true and there is no logical explanation to odd things other then "Oh, its a ghost,"

Its odd because last night this came up because I was watching Scariest Places on Earth on Scifi.  I was at that age when it first came on Fox Family and thought it was the coolest thing ever.  Watching it now, its fun, but its way hokier and most of the people that claimed hauntings on there were probably lying.

I see this as a good thing.  Shows that I can tell c**p from reality.  Does it make me not believe that there are paranormal occurrences? Not at all.  But it helps me see the stuff that is real from the stuff that is over active imaginations and full out lies.
