  1. yes they serve 18 year olds alcohol and honestly its not hard for younger kids to get it down there either. it's a tourist center so no things arent really cheaper. the busses and taxis are by comparison with the US but meals, drinks, entertainment etc is all priced for tourist trade.

people are mostly friendly, though salesmen can be really aggressive. ive heard that you should stay in the tourist places and not get it in your head to go visit the city, but other people do so without problems.

if you buy anything (other than food) make sure to haggle the price down. some people wont know better and will throw down 80$ for an onyx bull while someone else will get it for 20$ moments later

  2. Greetings from Cancun!

Well, my husband and I loved Cancun so much that we finally moved here permanently. Friendly, you bet. Incredible Caribbean Sea. To us it is "Paradise."

Cancun is a resort city that it's livelihood comes from tourism with the highest percentage being from US however you can easily meet people from all over the world. Yesterday my husband and I met 7-Spring Breakers from Norway.

Because it is a "resort" town it is expensive like most resort towns in the world. When you get away from the Hotel Zone and come into the city of Cancun everything does get less expensive.

We have 3-Walmarts (woohoo), Office Depot, Office Max, Home Depot, Sam's Club, Costco and a Sears and numerous Mexican food and department stores.

Yes, your nephew will be served alcohol. Legal age is 18. The all-inclusive resorts ask for ID to prove the age.

So, come on down the water is warm, sun is shinning and the people are friendly. That's what I call paradise!

    Hope this helps!

  3. I can't believeyou have not received hundreds of answers already.Of course thousands of Americans go to Cancun every year.sometimes I think I am the only one who has NOT been there!  It is a TOURIST town...so no things won't be cheap. As to what it is specifically like...well I will leave that to people who have been there..but I do  know people go back over and over, so they must really enjoy it.
