I read the horrific starvation and treatment of Jeffery Balwin.  Just gut wrentching how adults could treat a child this way.

What do you think should be done to weed out abusive foster parents?  And extended family members that are abusive?

  2. I have not read the article/book but it is interesting that once again the fact that the man is linked to "growing up in foster care" which is leading into the suggestion that it is the cause of his murdering tendency. I also find it interesting that it is the foster parents and not the birth parents that are blamed for a child's outcome when a child enters foster care. Very few children enter foster care as a new born infant but even that can have long lasting and profound effects on a child. Children who enter into foster care are not there because they received the love and nurture essencial to child development. You need to look at their life experience BEFORE they entered foster care in order to understand how they got to where they are as adults.

Have you read the book The Boy that was Raised as a Dog? It is not about one boy but a number of children who suffered early childhood trauma (at the hands of their birth parents or gardian) and the result that trauma and neglect had on the long term development of the children. The author was the key therapist used to counsel the children who escaped Waco and the Branch Davidian cult. Personally, I think The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog should be required reading for every parent be they bio, foster or adoptive. It will help everyone understand how important early life experiences or trauma affect a child less than two years of age.  There is so much to early childhood education that most people do not understand. The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog is a step in the right direction.

Did you know a child who stayed with his/her bio family suffered no physical abuse/neglect can still develop RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder)? If a child is medically fragile or has colic that child can turn into a sociopath. At an early age they have real pain and no one does anything that makes it go away. To that infant they learn adults cannot be trusted which carries over into their adult life. That is a thumbnail version but it is true.

  3. i tried to but all that came up were shoes . . . .

  4. dude, have youheard about jefry dahmer who killed and chopped people into pieces, or cary stayner who chopped girls heads off?  OH WOW MAN.  they weren't adopted.  having your own kid must make them mass murderers!  we should make it illegal to have your own kid and put them all up for adoption.
