Has Anyone been to or Know Anyone Who's At Fort Sill for Basic Training?

My husband left for basic training at Fort Sill on the 16 of July. It is now August 3rd. I have only heard from him once on the phone since he left reception. According to what it's like at Fort Sill, when can I expect to either receive phone calls or letters from him? Are they really strict there as far as phone calls go? Does he have time to write to me? I am feeling very down right now and just want to hear from him even if it is a short postcard. Does he have a way to buy postcards or should I send him some? Is there any other advice?

  1. My Husband went to Fort Sill and wrote me everyday and called once in a blue moon. But I cant remember when it was when I got his first letter. Maybe you havnt heard from him because its the first weeks into the basic training.

  2. I went to Ft. Sill for basic training. I was able to send letters anytime and make calls on the weekends. Postcards and writing material can be purchased easily.

  3. My boyfriend is there and has been since the first of July.  He has always called me on Sundays and sends me a letter at least once or twice a week.  They are only restricted to 1 5-minute call each week.

  4. I am a Deill Sergeant at Ft. Leonard Wood.  With all of the new privledges given to BCT/AIT PVT's, he should have been able to call you a couple dozen times.  I can't say for sure but... He's fine, just not calling!  And personal time starts at 1900 (7 pm).  He has every ability to write and send out letters daily.  We, as Drill Sergeant cannot stop them from doing so.

  5. OK, I went to basic there in 87 so it's been a while.  This base is considered an "OSUT" or one station unit station. Used to be all males on this base because they are predominately "field artillery" and related job specialties.  They ARE in fact more strict in many ways due to the longevity of the training combined with basic training.

Phone calls are a not a right so they can lose their rights from time to time if they s***w up. However, if for any reason they don't write you, or call if things are going well, you can call them--they'll make him call you. This happens all the time.  They get more privs as their time goes on.  So the first few weeks they can't contact you as much as the latter.  By the near or end of basic, they haved earned time to call.

In their job specialites, they are still ran around by drill sergeants which means they still have to earn all the cool stuff.  So even then, they can lose them too.

They are encouraged to write--almost forced to so not get families worried.  But don't worry too because they WILL contact you first if anything happens, believe me on this.

So to recap, low to no phone calls the first 2 wks.  More after.

Sorry for spelling, I'm not checking it and I'm tired.

    God Bless.
