  1. "On September 22, 1988, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney gave a long-awaited formal apology and the Canadian government began a significant compensation package, one month after President Ronald Reagan made similar gestures in the United States. The package for interned Japanese Canadians included $21,000 to all surviving internees, and the re-instatement of Canadian citizenship to those who were deported to Japan.[12] The agreement also awarded $12 million to the NAJC to promote human rights and support the community, and $12 million for the establishment of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation to push for the elimination of racism."*

rohak1212: All of their possessions were seized. All of them. Houses, furniture, boats, etc. I ask this quite plainly; who else were we at war with? I will follow this with another quite plain question; were German-Canadians interned? No. They were not. The internment of Japanese-Canadians was bloody racist, and anyone who thinks it wasn't might want to study the matter further.

  2. Yes, big time...and wrote out lots of cheques, too.

  3. I am not really sure, but if you do a google search that may help. If not try Wikipedia.com.

    Good luck!!

  4. Oh yeah, PM Stephen Harper's made a career out of apologizing.  He hasn't gotten yet to the Italians, though.

  5. Yes they did. And I think it was quite ridiculous. It was wartime, they were an obvious potential threat. In many places in the world they would have been treated much more harshly, or even simply shot. And quite frankly, it was the second or third generation removed that was the one pushing for compensation, and they certainly didn't suffer any.
