Has Cityscape lost the winning touch?
After being consistent for several years, it seems that Cityscape has lost his magical touch, as his performances in the ongoing season have not been much impressive. He has been competitive on a few occasions, but it is important for a stallion of his calibre
to win races regularly for his team.
In August 2008, the skilful horse made his seasonal debut at Newmarket and was right up with the front runners from the start. Despite not being given a very good starting price, he managed to finish as a runner up, which was really encouraging for his team.
He did not keep his team waiting for a very long time and triumphed in the very next event, he took part in. He was rated as the outright favourite to succeed back then and did not disappoint his fans. He sealed that year with another second place finish
and was rested for some months afterwards.
The six-year-old horse did not appear in a lot of races next year and his performances were also mixed ones. He ran in two events, but failed to taste success in any of them. This was not a very good sign for his team, but he bounced back in 2010, earning
a couple of important victories.
The Roger Charlton’s trainee appeared in quite a few competitions during the 2011 season, but his winning percentage was relatively lower that year. He managed to win a couple of times whereas he was competitive on most of the occasions.
However, things have not really worked out well for the talented runner during this year, as he has managed to win just once out of five attempts. His success came at Meydan, where he was not given the best odds for victory, but he surprised one and all
in the end.
After such a strong run, he was expected to continue the winning momentum in the remainder half of the year. However, one disappointing run in Hong Kong shattered his confidence completely. Overall, he has earned six victories out of 21 races and he needs
to lift his game in order to improve this tally.
Although, Cityscape has been unable to win with consistency in recent times, yet he has the ability to make a comeback at the highest level. Form is temporary, but class is permanent, thus his fans should not lose hope and expect the best from him in the
years to come.
