  1. DNA is not a terribly stable organic compound and degrades fairly quickly.  As with most things traces and remnants can be found.  There is evidence that DNA in some dinosaur bones survived.  Heres the kicker though most of the DNA is the same as basically every other animal.  The differences in DNA between a chimp and a person are actually very small and a human/whale have enormous DNA similarities.  Why because the basic building blocks for muscles/bones/blood vessels etc are all very similar.


  2. No, because when fossilization occurs, the hard parts of the body of the organism (the soft parts decay) material becomes rock.  

    In some cases, insects  have been preserved in amber, but since the matrix (the resin from trees that trapped the insects) becomes mineralized, again the DNA is not preserved.

  3. I want to know the answer to this. I hope there someone smart out there. I know this is not fosilization but I saw something cool on Discovery. A woolly mammoth they found with all of his hair.
