I cannot totally disagree with you but don't you think that Sen.Obama being a real the candidate for the presidency is an answer to Kings dream about the judgement of the color of one's skin has changed from being a negative to being accepted with trust in this election year?

  1. no, obama's candidacy is not proof of Dr kings dream being achieved.  Dr king would have wanted obama to be elected by character, not by skin colour.  I have talked to many an obama supporter who are absolutely enamoured with the idea of taking part in the election of the first black president.  The very notion is racist.  If Dr Kings dream was realized, people would be enamoured by something else, and being black would be a side note for the history books.

really this saddens me quite a bit because it has made me realize that we still live in racist country.  i honestly believed before all of this that in most areas of the country Dr. Kings dream had been realized.  This election is proof that it has not.

  2. No, it is still about the color of skin! From both sides of the equation!

  3. If McCain is elected, no.

  4. That depends on what were the details of King's dream. If he was dreaming of a society in which there are absolutely no more racist people at all, then no, and we never will be that kind of society. It is as impossible to attain as Utopia. But if his dream was of a society in which laws have been put in place to fight discrimination, then yes, his dream has been fulfilled.

  5. No , not as long as people keep classifying people as the first african american this and that.

Not as long as people use race to determine who they hire.

I personally have no problem defining people by their actions , and character.

We all have things that differentiate us from others (weight, politics , religion , personal style) some are accepted by the masses as acceptable reasons to discriminate , as race was in the past.

People seem to have a need to demonize someone in order to make themselves feel more enlightened.

I aspire to consider myself equal to the average person , but it's hard , when most people are bigoted to someone.

    Edit

MLK would not approve of someone calling McCain "another old white guy".

For some that is their motivation to vote against him. That is racist.

There is an effort out there that would like to convice naive young voters that if they vote republican that they are racist.Who is using race as an issue here ?

Try this , smack your hand every time you hear a republican mention race , now smack your other hand everytime you her the dems mention race.

It is against MLKs dream to bring up race even when it's positive.

If someone , lets say today . sits around drinking his coffee , and realizes , "hey , is Barack the first black presidential nominee ? Hmmm.. Maybe he is ...Hmmm Oh well , no big deal." then his dream is close to being realized.

When race is considered the same as blood type , then it will be achieved.

We also still have KKK members in congress. Here is a lovely quote from democratic senior senetor from West Virginia.

I shall never fight in the armed forces with a ***** by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.

—Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944 [6][7]

I'm a third party voter , and have never felt compelled to vote for a pub or dem (presidency), and have never considered race as an issue.
