Question:

Has Germany significantly expanded it's freedoms since World War 2?

I ask because I have learned about several things that make me question if Germany has really changed its ways since the days of Hitler's dictatorship. To state it frankly, it seems as if Germany is so deadset of not being an evil, Hitleresqe country that they ironically take a dictatorial approach to making the German population submissive, 'tolerant' and 'wordly'. I will just point out several instances, and allow you all to contribute or refute my curiousty.

In Germany it is illegal to publically advocate Hitler, the n**i party, or anything related to that era in German history. Even games like 'Wolfenstein', a game which depicts n**i events in WW2 is banned from the country. This is an obvious sign of a restriction of speech (as opposed to America's freedom of speech). What are your thoughts?

The German government is currently forcing (repeat, forcing) certain cities to purchase solar panels in an effort to make the city green. Going green is good, but is forcing something on people pushing the limits of acceptable government behavior?

German citizens are now at the 'forefront' of combating human rights violations, being the first and most outspoken in issues such as the current Tibet-China storm. I understand a changing of viewpoints following the dismantling of Hitler's regime, but is this world fervor the Germans have legitimately felt, or is it a facade put on to severe all ties between the current Germany and n**i Germany? I know it sounds cynical and a little presumptuous, but I can't help but get the vibe they haven't really changed since WW2 and do these things to sort of.....cloak their true intentions. Please, what ar eyour thoughts?

  1. have u had a good look at ameria ,and other counties , lately ?.

forcing solar panels? every country in the world should be doing that ,most people want the easy way out ,a free ride ,and have no qualms about destroying this planet for the sake of their "life style ",for the sake of future generations we need to do the right things NOW.there are many, many things that need urgent attention ,

it would be good if more of us focused more important matters .

so what do u want ?all germans to have a n**i symbol tattooed on their fore heads ,and not allowed to do good things?, there are few people alive now who were involved , and the majority were unaware of what was happening ,no media coverage as u have it now .so what ARE we doing about current atrocities ?

ps just for the record ,i'm not german .

  2. I can understand how you may feel that, and honestly, it's understandable that you may feel like that in a way.

However, Germany is certainly not the same as it was back then. I have a few German friends who would tell you that this stuff is likely for the better. When they came over here (Canada), they definitely noticed a change, yet the culture shock wasn't so huge. So, overall, it's probably not the same as it was back then.

Germany is always stereotyped as a strict nation, and this is probably something like that. The government is simply being firm, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  3. Yeah. It went to normal after reunification between east and west germany

  4. Yes, but not as much as the U.S. lol

  5. Well considering that Germany is well known for having the most democratic system in the world then yes I think it has expanded it's freedoms. I think you'll find that if you went around advocating Hitler and the n***s in any country you would be done for inciting hatred.
