Has Hammurabi's Law code been carbon dated?

Well. I assume it has been. Nowdays all ancient aftifacts hve been carbon dated. But I want to know for sure.

  1. I don't think it's possible.

    To carbon-date something, you need a sample of organic matter, like charred wood or bone. Hammurabi's Code is written on stone, so there is nothing about it on which one could do a C-14 test.


  2. Yes it has.

    While you can't carbon date stone, you can carbon date things you find with the stone.

  3. Sheynein is quite correct - you can't carbon-date stone. However, other methods (including, I think, written records) place the code at about 1760 BCE.
