Has Odom's inconsistency left a bad reputation?

I mean he can't be all that bad, right? His numbers for the most part are pretty good and it's not like he wants to shoot the ball. He's a pass first type of player and has other exceptional skills as a big man like ball handling. I see his numbers significantly improving now that a LOAD of pressure is off of him.

  1. as a laker fan, I can say he is extremely frustrating to watch. He should put up 20 to 25 points a night, but he is simply not aggressive and he has a tendency to dissapear in games. He didn't even show up for the first 3 games of the finals.

To be fair though, he is a good passer and ball handler and always puts up good rebounding numbers.

  2. im a laker fan but odom is those type of players who has good-bad games always he could score 22 points in one game and score 9 in the next game.

  3. I think Odom's inconsistency is a result of fans focusing more on his negatives (which can be frustrating to watch) rather than his positives.

People look at the large amount of potential Odom has and they use that when determining how good of a player he is right now. It's unfair to Odom, but that's how it is.

He has the ability to be an okay third option- but he's ideal as a fourth option on a championship caliber team.

When a person sees Odom's strengths, at his size, one thinks of how good he could be if he improved on his weaknesses- I mean, this is a 6'10" player who has great ball handling, is versatile (played small forward, power forward, and even a little center duing the year), is an unbelievably gifted passer, and a very good rebounder. He's also decent defensively- can get beat by smaller, quicker small forwards, but for the most part, he does fine.

But, of course, when someone sees Odom's strengths at his size, they immediatley question why he's not better than he currently is given his talent- they wonder why he's not at the level of say a Scottie Pippen.

And that's because Odom does having some glaring weaknesses- he's a below average jumpshooter, can only drive left which results in him getting a lot of offensive fouls, and is prone to making some foolish mistakes.

But, Odom does get a bad reputation- because of his inconsistency as you mentioned- one minute he's making sharp passes to cutters, knocking down his open shots, finishing with his left hand when attacking the hoop. The next moment he's fouling left and right, taking ill advised shots, and continously turning it over. He also gets a bad rep., as I said, because of his large potential, which he never really fulfilled.

And yeah, with Bynum back next season, he won't have to try to create his offense (which he can struggle with)- he just has to knock down shots once in a while and keep up his biggest strength- his ability to pass the ball in the post or out in the perimeter.

  4. Yes esp. when his good games come against my favorite teams (when he scored 31 vs. the Mavericks).

  5. I think he's just been preoccupied and injured the past few years. Everyone knows what he is capable of.

  6. how the f*** do u call odom inconsistent when the ball always goes to the machine, gasol, or kobe. pass it to odom and maybe u might see the "inconsistency" dissapear. and how do u suppose odom to get the ball if he has to rebound so gasol can run all the way down court to get the ball and lay it up gently. odom does all the dirty work
