Has Phil Taylor lost his reign? Think again!
After the quality of darts the world saw at the McCoy’s Premier League, the UK Open was the most anticipated darts event of the entire year.
The UK Open marked the dawn of a new era of competitive darts. The level of athleticism and creativity witnessed at the UK Open was indeed impressive.
The McCoy’s Premier League saw the rise of Simon Whitlock, who stood out among players like Adrian Lewis, James Wade and Andy Hamilton.
It was a pleasant surprise to see “The Wizard” depicting his best at the Premier League among darts legends.
Phil Taylor was hooked up against Whitlock in the final of the McCoy’s Premier League 2012. Taylor was an easy bet to win the League, yet, it was not as easy as it seemed.
Whitlock knocked out “The Jackpot” before the finale and threw him out of the Premier League. After this shocking face-off, the analysts were not sure about the outcome the Premier League would deliver.
However, “The Power” once again proved that he is the best darts player in the entire world and won the McCoy’s Premier League.
After the global domination Taylor bestowed, the UK Open was the next big thing for the world number one. It was thought that he would ease through the tournament and mark his territory once again.
The UK Open ended in different way. Taylor lost the final at the hands of rookie Robert Thornton.
“The Power” displayed competitive weakness in the early rounds of the UK Open. This issue first appeared when Taylor complained about his back ache that he felt at the final of the Premier League last month.
It was said that Taylor might go for a surgery, yet, no legitimate confirmation was observed concerning his surgery taking place.
The final of the UK Open was extremely disappointing for Taylor’s fans, as his performance was below average as compared with his stature. Things are falling apart for the 15-time World Champion as he requires a re-boot of his craft at darts.
As far as the untouchable reign of “The Power” is concerned, it is a bit too early to determine whether his domination has ended or not. He still remains the best in the world and his record is too heavy to fall off in front of a single tournament defeat.
Phil Taylor is the greatest darts player that has ever lived. The UK Open defeat is disappointing but it cannot touch Taylor’s glorious record that he has maintained for the past one decade.
