Has Real Madrid Left Everything On Jose Mourinho?
Real Madrid is the most prestigious club in La Liga, while they are, definitely, one of the best teams in Europe. This success has largely been due to the signings of some of the biggest players in Football. These famous and prolific professionals played their part in the success of the club, while most of the other clubs did not have the resources to match the superiority of Real Madrid. The famous football players of this decade, including Zinedine Zidane and Makelele of France, Ronaldo of Brazil, Luis Figo of Portugal and Raul of Spain, have shown their skills for the Spanish giants and led them to glory on all fronts, including Spain and Europe.
Real Madrid’s team, which had all these players, was famously known as the Galacticos, who won two league titles and two Champions League titles in only three seasons. Also, these players were the best players while playing for their National sides, as the French won the World Cup in 1998 and the Euro Cup in 2000, with the support of Zidane and Makelele, while Brazil won the World Cup in 2002, with Ronaldo as their top scorer. So, the supremacy of Madrid’s players was unrivalled in the World, while Real Madrid became one of the biggest brand names in Europe.
But, things have changed recently, as Madrid’s rival in Catalunya, Barcelona FC, has been trying to steal the fame for themselves. They have developed a team which is being regarded as their own Galacticos, or maybe even better than the Madrid’s strongest team in their history. They have the best players in the World, but more importantly, most of these Barcelona men are a product of their own youth academy system. Therefore, their coordination is impeccable and their mutual understanding is supreme, even bigger than that of Madrid’s stars. The superiority of these players can be seen from the fact that they made up the most of the Spanish squad in the World Cup, thus, they led their National side to a glorious victory for the first time in their history. Also, Real Madrid has failed, in their previous two seasons, to challenge the authority of their Catalunyan rivals. The Catalunyans have beaten Madrid twice, in their own backyard at Bernabeu, almost humiliating them in their course to victory.
In order to challenge the Catalunyans’ authority, Real Madrid adopted their old version of remedy in the last season. A lot of money was injected into the club, thus trying to get hold of the best players on the planet. So, two players were signed who had already won the prestigious FIFA World Player of the Year award, i.e. Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. Apart from these players, Karim Benzema was bought from Lyon, while Liverpool sold their holding midfielder, Xabi Alonso, to Real Madrid as well.
But, this did not work for Madrid as they failed to do anything in the last season, when all these players were playing for the team. Hence, the last ingredient to the successful team was put in, before the start of the new season, i.e. the treble winning coach of Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho, has been included, as the new coach of Real Madrid, to provide the catalyst for victory.
Jose Mourinho is well known for his capabilities of winning in Europe as well as the domestic competitions. He has won two Champions League trophies in a short period of his career; one with FC Porto and the other with Inter Milan. Therefore, he was been given the reigns of Madrid’s football squad and has been entrusted with the duty of winning the domestic and European battles, which includes overpowering their rivals.
Mourinho has the credentials to do that, as he beat Barcelona in the Semi-Finals of the Champions League. The Portuguese national is famous for his defensive tactics, which have often been regarded as anti-football. So, by playing each player in order to counter-balance a player from Barcelona is the only way, right now, to beat the Catalans, or at least this is the idea behind the signing of Jose Mourinho.
All the attempts of defeating the new Spanish giants have failed and now the responsibility rests on the shoulders of Jose Mourinho, who would probably face the toughest challenge of life, in the coming season.
