Has Sachin Tendulkar played his last Test? Opinion
Over the years, India has produced a number of great batsmen like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556, who is arguably the best batsmen
of the modern-day sport and one of the all time greats.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607, at an age of merely 16, made his international debut in 1989 during the tour of Pakistan, and has been a permanent member of the Indian side in Test cricket as well as the limited-over sport since then.
The little-master ruled the world of cricket for more than two decades, scoring in excess of 34 thousand runs at the highest level of the sport with the help of 100 international centuries, more than any other batsman by a distance.
The great cricketer has so far represented the Men in Blue in 194 Tests, 463 One Day Internationals and a T20.
Over the last 20 months however, the batting-maestro has not been at the peak of his game, failing to register a single Test century since January 2011. Tendulkar could not help http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 avoid embarrassing whitewashes at the hands of England
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, scoring just 63 runs in the series.
Before the series against England, the 39-year-old cricketer revealed that he may ponder retiring from the game after the battle against the Poms.
“I need not take a (retirement) call right now. When I play in November, I will reassess things. I am still the best judge of what happens to my mind and body. When I feel it is time, I will take a call,” he expressed.
Sachin showed positive signs in the domestic cricket leading to the all-important competitions; however, the right-hander could not live up to the expectations, when it mattered most for the Indian fans. He managed merely 112 runs in
the four matches at an average of just 18.66 runs per innings.
Dravid and Laxman had already retired from international cricket earlier this year, which put additional responsibility on the legendary cricketer’s shoulders. It is the reason why some of the sporting analysts believe that Tendulkar’s
failure is one of the major reasons behind India’s loss in the series.
The great cricketer had admitted earlier this year that he is at the twilight of his career; however, the right-hander thinks that he still has the potential to perform in international cricket.
“I don't think I have plenty of cricket left in me,” said the great batsman. “I am 39 plus and it is not abnormal for me to think of it. At that moment, I will go by what my heart says. At this moment, my heart says I am okay. But you
will have to look at series by series.”
There are many former cricketers who think that Tendulkar’s time is up in international cricket and the right-hander should hang his boots by himself, instead of letting the selectors take a decision about his future.
It remains to be seen whether Sachin gets an opportunity to regain his form in the upcoming 50-over series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and England but there are chances that one of the greatest cricketers of the history of the game might have
played his last Test (against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at Nagpur).
