Has T. Boone Pickens been 'drinking' the AGW 'Kool-Aid'?

Why is he on the "green" agenda? Will he be the first to become a billionaire on 'green' energies?

OR

Will he fail because you 'believe' AGW is a "hoax"?

  1. He's a smart guy.  Wind farms are on par with nuclear energy in terms of total cost per energy produced.  Probably cheaper once you factor in the decommissioning costs of a nuclear plant.

Once you build the wind farm, the operation and maintenance costs are minimal.

With fossil fuels, you have to continually drill, find new places to drill, create additional infrastructure to transport the fuel, etc. etc.  At this point we've gotten most of the easy to obtain oil, demand is skyrocketing, and prices will continue to rise.  With renewables, as long as the wind blows and sun shines, you're assured of a stable energy source.

  2. T. Boone is simply a business man. He's invested a lot of money in wind farms and natural gas. By making his current claims he is attempting to maximize the value of his investment. At which point, T. Boone will sell his holdings, make a lot of additional money, and then look for the next business opportunity.

There is nothing wrong with this--it is the focus of a capitalist system. However, his ads have no more intrinsic value than those of Budweiser. And they both have the same aim--separating you from your money by making their product appear indispensible.

  3. He is just trying to compensate for much of the damage caused over the years by his smelters by buying green credits on the world market.

  4. Probably, but he, or his company  will regret it when it becomes painfully clear that coal will be required for our survival within the next two decades. And that renewables will have no chance of picking up the slack and coal will be required for our (THE US) survival after the Earth is well into a dangerous climatic cooling episode.

  5. T. Boone Pickens is a smart businessman.  The cost of producing wind energy will not change much, but the price at which the wind energy is sold will track the price of fossil fuels.

  6. Because he's clever in recognizing that energy is a hot button right now and he's playing off people's fears and the green fad.  Slimy and underhanded, but clever.  Also, the energy yielded from renewable energies is a joke compared to that of fossil fuels or nuclear energy.  This has been shown time and time again.  Anyone who says it's a better alternative to what we have now is only lying to themselves.

  7. The "Pickens Plan" isn't even pushing the global warming angle...he's pushing the "let's reduce our dependancy on foreign oil" angle...which I feel will be much more successful, since everyone is fed up with gas prices.
