Question:

Has Windows installed another update that's conflicting with Zone Alarm?

Every time the Windows yellow update shield appears in my icons tray at the bottom of the screen, I can't get on the internet. I thought Zone Alarm had solved their conflict with Windows by putting a patch on to prevent this, or is it that Windows are determined that we should use their Firewall and are continually sending the conflicting update again and again. I get on the internet without any trouble when I'm using Windows Firewall but as soon as I enable Zone Alarm again, off it goes!

I've now gone into the updates and clicked that I want to be informed about updates but that they are not to be downloaded and installed without my say so.

Anyone else had this problem?

  1. i completely uninstalled zone alarm and then downloaded the latest version again from the zone alarm website. it all seems to be working fine for me now. if it still doesn't work, go to add/remove programs and uninstall the windows patch that causes the problem

  2. Zone alarm have issued a fix, link below.

  3. Hi I just updated one of our windows PC`s after reading your question and we have no problem with the zone alarm conflict you are describing. Are you sure you have not downloaded the old update that caused the problem last week. We disabled the update and said not to inform us again and that seems to work for us.
