Has a gallon of gas in gone up in the U.K. equal to a gallon in the U.S?

Recent reports in Yahoo Answers say that UK people are paying about $9.50 a gallon for gas.  So about 2 and a half times our price.  

They were paying $5.00 a gallon when we were paying $1.00 a gallon.
