I'm sure I saw something about the English national being won after the leader took the wrong course at the end of the race.

Possibly in the 70's.My dad told me the Scottish national was won after the leader ran out the finish a circuit early but I 'm sure that wasn't the story I saw.

Anyone know either of these horses? Ta!

  1. Can't find any mention of it happening in the 70's, but in 2004 Clan Royal, whose jockey Liam Cooper had lost his whip, was passed on a dramatic run-in where he veered dramatcally off course just near the 'Elbow'.

  2. Yes I remember The Leader, i backed Esha Ness in the National about1994 i think, trained by Jenny Pitman. It won the race but the race was declared void, false start if i remember, I'll google it.
