Has a hurricane ever hit NYC? What would happen if?

Several have. In 1821 a hurricane passed over Manhattan, there was flooding and damage but few deaths because the population then was only a fraction of what it is now.

In 1892 a Category 1 passed over the borough of Queens, destroying resort islands in Rockaway Bay.

But the most famous hurricane was the 1938 "Long Island Express." The city was only hit with the less-dangerous lefthand side of the hurricane but Long Island and the Rhode Island/Massachussets areas where pounded. The storm resulted in over 200 deaths. There are lots of websites devoted to this storm, there are some great photos too.

not that bad since the water isnt hot enough for the hurricane to become strong...

so basically just a thunderstorm lol
