  1. Alan B says..."No. The Olympics have never been in the Southern hemisphere. For the 2016 Summer games, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is one of the four finalists."

    If so where do you consider Sidney to be????????

  2. no African country has ever staged the Winter or Summer Olympic Games.

  3. No.  The Olympics have never been in Africa or South America. For the 2016 Summer games, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is one of the four finalists.

  4. Yeah, Australia has actually held it twice, in Melbourne and Sydney. And Australia is in Southern Hemisphere.

    @Sal

    the reason for why African nations don't get the olympics is probably because of the massive economic burden it carries. Beijing will cost around $US40 billion, and chances are most of this won't be recovered for several years to come. The Middle East will have massive security issues.

    Also Delhi, India and Dubai, UAE have considered putting in a bid for 2020 olympics after pulling out of 2016 bid. And if you look at the bids, most developing countries don't nominate themselves.

  5. Er, actually Alan, Sydney is in the southern hemisphere. No African nation has hosted yet.

  6. Not yet

  7. Alan B. Last time i checked Australia was in the soutern hemisphere and has held the olympics twice. Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.

  8. No, the IOC is probably too racist to ever hold the Olympics in Africa, The Middle East, India, or many other deserving places.

    I mean how can the US get the Olympics in 1984 and then again in 1996. That's incredible when you consider that the ENTIRE continent of Africa and also the entire Middle East have never gotten one.
