  1. It has happened only 14 times.

The people who say it "happens all the time" must be thinking either of unassisted double plays (one player catches a line drive and then is able to either tag a runner before they can return to first or steps on 2nd or third to double up a player who started to run when the ball was hit - much easier to accomplish than a unassisted triple play) or they are thinking of a regular triple play, where more than one player has a hand in completing the play. Still not very common but has happened 672 times from 1876 thru 2007 in the MLB - so it is much more likley than an unassisted triple play.

  2. yes by asdrubal cabera on the indians

  3. Yah this year by asdrible cabrera of the indians

they were playing toronto at home and there were runners at 1st 2nd, they stole, a ball was hit to cabrera, he caught it, tagged the runner going to second and tagged second.

  4. It's happened 14 times.

    Most recent.

    Cabrera-Cleve, this year

    Tulowitzki-2007

    Furcal-2003

    Velarde-2000

  5. There have been 14 since 1909. See the link I've provided.

  6. lots of times!!

i get so excited and shocked every time!!

  7. They happen like once every couple of years. Asdrubal Cabrera did one this year and last year Troy Tulowitzki had one. They happen when there is 1st and second with no one out and there is a double steal on. Then the hitter hits a line drive and the fielder steps on second and tags out the runner coming from first to second.

  8. yes, of course

  9. yes, but not very often. I remember Micky Morandini did it in the mid 90's, but i know he wasnt the last to do it

  10. Asdrubal Cabrera had one this year

  11. It happened 14 times.Asdrubal Cabrera did this year.

  12. yes i think asdubural cabrera did it

he dove and caught one when the runner on first was at second, he tagged him then the runner on second was all the way at third, he stepped on second base and got an unassisted triple play.

  13. I'm gonna have to say no.

  14. OK, they do NOT happen all the time, like one answerer said. There have been only 14 unassisted triple plays in MLB history.

  15. Yes, there have actually been two in the last two years: Troy Tulowitski and Asdrubal Cabrera.

The formula for an unassisted TP tends to be:

    1) Catch ball

    2) tag base behind runner

    3) tag runner who has already broken for nearest base.

  16. YEAH ASDRUBLE CABRERA DID IT THIS YEAR.

I THINK I SPELLED HIS NAME WRONG

  17. i it has been and i think there have been a total of 13 triple plays in baseball history.

The last one by Asdrubal cabrera of Cleveland Indians against Toronto blue jays.
