  1. My brother and his fiancee just had one. They had a BBQ in her parents' backyard. It was pretty nice.

  2. yes...some people have them, but we didnt.  it was just going to take money away from the wedding.  a friend of mine is having one however, but its just going to be a BBQ at her house which isnt costing much.  If you want to have one then I would keep it simple, dont go all out and have a huge thing at a hall with catered foods and things like some people have.  congrats!

  3. Yes, my mom threw my fiancee and I an engagement party a week after we got engaged. I also threw an engagement party for close friends the night they got engaged. There is no particular rules for this kind of party. It can range from a fancy dinner to a champagne and cake reception or maybe just an open house. However, it is a MAJOR faux pas to throw your own engagement party- that just looks like you are looking for attention and gifts.

  4. Yes, I have heard of this.  It's quite common, although I've never attended one.

  5. Yes, I have heard of this.  I got engaged in February but we didn't have an engagement party.  Some friends made dinner for us in celebration though.  We are paying for our own wedding so we didn't have the cash to spend on that type of party.  We did discuss it though but decided to go with a bigger wedding.

  6. Yes, I had one.  Usually the parents of the groom to be have it.  You can throw it yourself though if you want.

  7. Yea, it's pretty common.

I know people who just had a little get together with family and friends at someone's house for a BBQ.  Or maybe gathered a group out to dinner.

And others had a big party at a hall (Which was basically like a reception without a wedding ceremony.  Had a gift registry for it and everything.  Very Tacky.)

  8. Yes, a lot of people have engagement parties.  I had one, but mine was very informal with family and a few close friends.

  9. Yes. Engagement parties are fairly common. But I would only do it if you have the money to spare.

  10. Every one I know has had one. Me and my fiance had one too. His sister and my sister did it all. Where I live, everyone does it, its considered kinda weird if you dont!
