I was thinking of designing a necklace with this kind of stone since it is not a common gem. I only use odd shaped and uncommon gemstones for my jewelry.

  1. FUQU!

    Sounds reeeely interesting!

I just love answers that I can understand without the use of an Encyclopedia, so I will try to make this one of them!

    AXINITE:

It is a "Burnt Honey Brown" Vitreous Gemstone that is much like Quartz, and is often confused with the same.

It can be found in Europe, and North & South America.

As its hardness is 6½ to 7 it should do just fine for a necklace, and even a bracelet.

You can probably find rough and Faceted.  If your lucky you can find Cabs and perhaps even tumbled.

I am not sure you can find it  "Strung" and "Pre-Drilled".  You can drill it yourself, but it is quite hard, and you need a diamond bit.

IF YOU MAKE ONE WITH AXINITE, SEND ME A PICTURE!  :-)

    Good Luck - Very Best,

  2. Sounds interesting if you get a piece with color change. Another you might use is Bixbite.

  3. yes I know that gem stone the colour of it, is very dark.It is triclinic crystals which exhibit the least symmetry of the crystal systems. Their axes are unequal and do not intersect at right angles anywhere. This Brazilian axinite is an example of a triclinic crystal.
