  1. yes, there are many place to can visit in HCM city, there are a lots of great foods.

  2. been there too, but what was most exciting to me was watching motorbikes that kept on moving from one direction to another.  I think there are  millions of them in the streets of HCMC.

  3. The city's media is the most developed in the country. At present, HCMC has 5 daily newspapers: Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) and its Chinese, investment and finance, sports, evening and weekly editions, Tuoi Tre (Youth); the highest circulation newspaper in Vietnam; Nguoi Lao Dong (Labourer); The Thao (Sports) and the Saigon Times Daily, the business newspaper in English, and over 30 other newspapers and magazines. HCMC Television (HTV) is the second largest television network in the nation, just behind the national Vietnam Television (VTV), broadcasting 24/7 on 7 different channels (using analog and digital technology). The Voice of HCMC People is also the largest radio station in the Southern region. The major international TV channels are provided through two cable networks (SCTV and HTVC), with over 300,000 subscribers or satellite TVs.

The city has over 1.2 million fixed telephones and about 3 million cellular phones (the latter growing annually by 20%). The Internet, especially through ADSL connections, is also rapidly expanding with over 800,000 subscribers and around 3 million frequent users.

The city has hundreds of printing and publishing houses, many bookstores and a widespread network of public and school libraries. The HCMC General Library with over 1.5 mìllion books, is a beautiful architectural building, among the greatest in Vietnam. One can visit the Museum of History, the Museum of Revolution, the Museum of Southern Women, the Museum of Southeastern's Armed Forces, the Museum of Fine Art, the Gallery for War Remnants, the Nha Rong Memorial House, the Ben Duoc Relic of Underground Tunnels and many private art galleries. Besides the Municipal Theatre, there are other great places of entertainment such as: the Bến Thành and Hòa Bình Theaters and the Lan Anh Music Stage. The Đầm Sen Tourist and Cultural Park, Suoi Tien Cultural Park and the Can Gio Eco beach resort are three recreational sites inside the city which are popular with visitors.

Visitors can also enjoy various non-local cuisines, from Japanese sushi to Texas barbecue. The city has hundreds of ranked hotels with over 18,000 rooms, including ten luxury 5 star hotels. However, backpacking travelers can easily get cheap menus and rooms in the "Western Quarter" on Pham Ngu Lao street in District 1

  4. Yes, I've been. It's excellent. Depends what you're looking for.

It's worth doing a day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels as that's very interesting.

Don't bother going on boat trip on Saigon river because the river stinks. Also, don't go to Apocalypse Now bar because it's full of hookers.

The Reunification Palace was quite interesting, espcially the war rooms, though our guide kept droning on about the decor of all the rooms! The post office is well worth stopping off in. Sounds strange but it's an incredible building inside. There are also some great markets around which you really must go to. If you look past some of the bizarre food stalls (frogs and snakes for example) you'll find some great clothes stalls as well as DVDs and CDs.

There are quite a few pogodas worth visiting and also the day tip to the Mekong Delta is a really good day out.

There are lots of interesting places to eat and some of the ex-pat bars are very cool. There's a lot of French influence over there, from when Vietnam was a colony, but if you look hard enough you'll find some great little authentic bars. Some of the roof top bars are worth paying a visit to, just for the nighttime view over the city. It's quite incredible.

Crossing roads in Ho Chi Minh is virtually impossible because there are literally millions of motorbikes everywhere, so be careful. There are motorbike taxis who not only offer bike rides, but oddly a rather large selection of drugs from weed to cocaine and they will try and push it all on you!! There are a lot of beggers, some with napalm burns which can be quite distressing. More so though, you'll be surprised by the amount of children begging. If you take just one bit of advise from me, ignore these children. I know it sounds cruel, but they will try and rip you off and if you don't go along with it, you'll be astounded by the amount of English swear words they know!

Above all, enjoy it. It's a great city.

  5. Your first two answers were great and tells a lot of what to do.  I especially enjoy going to all the little cafes, the food is terrific.  Have fun.

  6. I ve been to Ho Chi Minh city ,in fact I spent my last Christmas in Majestic Hotel overlooking Saigon river.

When I was in Ho Chi Minh city ,I booked a tour that consist of   visit to Chu Chi tunnel , and that includes  a city tour  as well(cathedral ,Presidential palace ,war museum etc).If you go around the main area  which is around the riverfront ,they are plenty of pubs and such .Its really nice to be there.

  7. HCMC is wonderful.... Don't miss an opportunity to go there, or anywhere else in Vietnam (I'm also a big fan of Hanoi and Ha Long Bay).  You can find great food in HCMC.  It is a busy, active city.  Crossing the street is difficult, but not impossible.  The people are friendly and helpful to tourists.  It is a nice place.  Very hot when I was there (once in August and once in March).  I did a trip to Cu Chi tunnels as well as a trip to the Mekong area.  Both were very interesting, but I love the activity of the city.  I can't wait to get back there someday.  Vietnam is my favorite place on Earth (and, no, I am not Vietnamese!)
