Has any one ever heard of a Host or a Matster of ceremonies for a theatre (stage)?

like someone who speeks before the show and sometimes after to welcome them and tell them to shut off cell phones ect and intoduces the play.

is this a common thing or not

  1. Yes, it is very common. Usually, the director of the play will come out and say thank you for coming, please turn off your cell phones to be courteous to the actors and the audience around you, no flash photography, or no photography at all because this play is copyrighted, etc. etc. It is always a good idea to have one so ground rules are set for the audience.


  2. yeah it's common. Concerts, plays, any event can have one. Tell a few jokes between acts, keep the crowd warm, introduce the acts, etc. Master of Ceremonies became the abreviation "MC", which was adopted by the early hip hop community for rappers' names.
