Question:

Has any one had any trouble with APX Security?

A salesman came to the house stating that we were chosen out of the whole neighborhood to get a free securtiy system. We only have to pay $44/mo for monitoring. Of course my spouse said yes and signed the papers before I even knew what the saleman wanted. I was so upset, I got right on the computer and googled them. I now have read many scams and problmes by APX and was wondering if after the fact: any one have any trouble?

We canceled and got rid of it, however, I am very nervous: they have been in my house (chance to case it) and they now have my spouses (Not my account) CC numbers.

  1. I'm not familiar with APX specifically, but it is fairly common in the alarm industry to offer a " free" security system if you sign a long-term contract for monitoring. This works very much like the "free" cell phones that you see advertised -- if you make a three-year commitment for service, they will give you a phone for free.

While they may have used high-pressure sales tactics on your spouse, there is nothing to suggest that they were "casing" your home to commit a burglary. An aggressive salesperson and a burglar are usually two entirely different things.

As far as the credit card is concerned, have your spouse watch the billing statements closely for the next few months to be on the look out for any fraudulent charges. Keep in mind that every time you use your CC at a store, restaurant, or gas station, there is a chance that the clerk/hostess/waiter may copy down the number and expiration date and use it for fraudulent purposes later on. The only defense against this is to watch your statements closely and promptly dispute erroneous charges.

I think you may be overreacting a bit.
