I need to read this book for school but im not going to have enough time.. can anyone give me a summary of the book?

It is the story of an alcoholic's  rehab and recovery.  It was originally published as factual.  It made Oprah's book club list. Later it was exposed as a hoax.  The story though, even if ficton, is compelling.  It very accurately portrays inpatient detox and rehab.
