Since the circulation of winds and weather systems are different from those in the northern hemispheres, would the hurricane rotate differently?

  1. No, but we has cyclones. Lots and lots of cyclones, especially in Darwin. They can be kinda destructive at times. Not so many cyclones further south in Aus, though- mosty just the north coast.

  2. I believe they also get typhoons in Oz, as well as the cyclones.. they are still equivelant to hurricanes...

  3. Only in parliment.

Yes, they do rotate the other way

  4. 11:22 20 March 2006

A devastating tropical cyclone has ripped through north-eastern Australia, injuring people and destroying homes with gusts of up to 290 kilometres (180 miles) per hour. And another cyclone – the Southern hemisphere's hurricane equivalent – is on its way.

The first cyclone, named Larry, reached maximum (Category 5) intensity at about the time of landfall. It hit the coast at the town of Innisfail, about 100 kilometres (62 miles) south of Cairns, at 0700 Eastern Standard Time  Larry is now weakening as it moves west over land and leaves its power source – evaporating ocean water – behind. By 2000 AEST it was about 400 km inland and had downgraded to a Category 2 storm.

If you’re in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.  The Earth’s rotation creates the Coriolis Force, which pulls at the winds.  When an area of low pressure forms north of the equator, the winds fly in and are twisted to create a counterclockwise rotation.  South of the equator, the opposite takes place, and a clockwise rotation occurs.

  5. I know you are looking for a serious answer but I can't give you one, I have never visited Australia so my answer would be no

  6. They get Typhoons, I think.

  7. It does rotate differently and they are called Tropical Cyclones.

The tropical parts of northern Australia get them regularly.

  8. Hurricanes only occur in the Northern hemisphere, in the Southern hemisphere they're called cyclones and rotate in the opposite direction.

So to answer your question, no Australia has never had a hurricane but they do experience cyclones.
