At the end of the month my husband will be taking our 9 year old son across the border from Canada to the States for a couple of days. My husband was born in the States and they moved to Canada when he was 3...he has duo citizenship. I know I have to send a letter with him giving him permission so they don't think he is illegally running with our son. We live in a remote area and have to use two ferries and drive many hours to get to the border....we don't want him to get turned back especially since he has to go so far to get there. Has anyone experience with this...will they accept the note at face value or do they sometimes refuse to allow the parent to cross or will they maybe just phone me? Also, what does the note have to say?

  1. Get it notarized and you will not have any issues with the legality of it.

It should state that your husband has your permission to take your child across the border into the US, and where they are going, where they will be staying and how long they will gone, it also should have all your contact info, address and any phone numbers you can be reached at, especially at the time they will be crossing.
