Famous ghost hunters today those who started the ghost hunting craze due to the internet claim to be scientific researchers in search of the one photo, one EVP or a combination of pictures, EVP, EMF readings etc that will finaly convince the hard core skeptic ghosts exist.

Now don't get me wrong I am part of that culture. But I am beginning to rethink some things. Mainly I see some things that reinforces my views, but I do not even try to convince the skeptic but some of my friends have a different view.

  1. I have yet to come across any evidence that I would consider compelling or that in any way indicates the existence of ghosts.  The fact that I began as a believer but became a skeptic (before I ever heard the term) is because I could no longer deny the lack of evidence.

EDIT: This is an interesting question.  I just asked a similar question of the believers to hear from the other side.

  2. I don't claim to have any answers, BUT, when you have a video tape showing a door closing on it's own, or find things such as a ball that has moved from one room to another and you are the only person home, you have to ask yourself how this happened! I have had these experiences among many others. I use to have my doubts too, but as these experiences keep accumulating you tend to become a firm believer in the paranormal. I think until a person has an experience, they will continue to be skeptics, and that's fine, everyone is entitled to have their opinions. But we should have respect for those who do believe and have had experiences! I am not trying to change any ones minds and "make" them believers, but I will share my stories if you ask me to. As far as the Paranormal Researchers on TV or groups on the Internet,  I personally find a huge amount of comfort just knowing that I am not the only one who has had experiences.

  3. Its hard since most evidence or theories that look in it get called pseudo-science anyway. So basically I cant have a fair and balanced scientific debate on this manner.

  4. Not yet, and I've made an effort to be aware of all the paranormal research that I can get my hands on. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the research I come across is pretty shoddy, and I say this as a professional researcher (PhD) in a physical science who makes his living doing this stuff and publishing whenever possible. I'm acutely aware of the standards that scientific research and publications must adhere to and there's not many in the paranormal that come close to meeting these standards. However, I will keep plugging on and I hope to run across something that will pique my interest. I am certainly open to reviewing new evidence, especially any evidence which would support the existence of spirits / ghosts.

  5. Haven't changed my mind yet. There has not been one piece of "evidence" yet that I've found strong enough to take as "proof" of the paranormal.

  6. That I could not say, but I was a skeptic until I experienced my first ghost some 30 years ago. There's something going on, and I wanna find out! Call me nuts, but I would never report something I hadn't seen myself. Nothing to gain but knowledge.

  7. No.  They have nothing that constitutes evidence.  Dust, lighting, slight temperature changes and magnetic fields are not evidence of anything but an overactive imagination.  If they want to prove there are ghosts, the best way to start would be by producing one.

  8. Not me or anyone I know.I've heard of some who say they were.I'm not convinced they were skeptical to begin with. That's not to say I'll close my mind to new information.
