unfounded. Has any believer in the young earth view gone on to study geology and realised that there beliefs are unfounded? In both cases I mean study at college level.

  1. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with ID as long as it's taught as philosophy rather than science.  I believe in ID, but it's not scientifically provable and falls in the realm of philosophy/religion, not Science.

  2. No, actually my beliefs were strengthened through my classes. I believe God creates us to progress eternally, we are capable of growing and learning or "evolving" the idea that animals evolve makes sense. In my geology class studying rock formation and the earth helped me understand just how incredible the planet it is and that there is no way it could have possibly been made on accident. It's all too perfect.

Just remember that while people argue religion is unproven and unfounded, most things in science are just "theories" meaning they are unproven. The only thing proven in science are laws. Evolution, big bang etc. all theories. There is not a single scientific law that contradicts God.

  3. C ok well just becuase the bible and priets say the earth is only 6000 years old doesnt mean its true...but sorry id rather trust a biology textbook about how im made than the bible....after all when was the last time you saw god doing brain surgery????

  4. Science is based on hypotheses and the experiments you design to TEST the hypotheses (notice i didn't say PROVE). Based on the data you receive from your tests, you can either support or discard a hypothesis. that's the fundamental role of science. it's not based in emotion, nor is it based in prejudice, and it's certainly not based in faith. it's a logical endeavour.

what's truly lamentable is that many people (scientists and non-scientists alike) either have forgotten this or never really learned this in their education. and on a related note, if you walk away from all of the science education you have and never learned what science really is, then your entire science education is a failure. science constantly changes as new experiments are devised to test new hypothesis. the theory of evolution is no different. it has changed, is changing, and will change as new data are collected.

creationism and ID are not considered science because they cannot be tested experimentally. it doesn't mean they are wrong or that anyone who believes in them is wrong. it means it's not scientific. and for this reason cannot be taught in a science class. they belong in history, religion or philosophy classes. they are every bit as important to learn as evolution.

i've studied science my entire professional life. i have also learned about creationism and the tenets of ID. i've always had the opinion that science and creationism have very little to do with each other b/c i realized a long time ago there are different ways to "know" something. if science contradicts a religious philosophy, it's a personal responsibility to determine which you choose to believe. it doesn't mean that either is worthless or not worth knowing.

i fully respect the right of each person to believe as he wishes. while i don't agree with the young earth/creationist view, i understand it and respect people who do believe it. what i don't respect however is people who, having such a weak or non-existent grasp of what science is, want to disregard or dilute scientific theories with non-scientific ideas.

  5. Just because textbooks and teaches say the earth is billions of years old,etc... does not make it true.

There is NO proof for Evolution at all.

  6. You might want to avoid Psychology, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Geology, Paleontology, Archeology, etc. if you hold Creationist views.

  7. Lee Strobel did and found proof for the Creator.

  8. I can't give a definitive answer, but "yes" seems very likely.

  9. I was raised as a christian but at 14 in my first biology class realised it was all a lie. Facts speak for themselves but I will say it was more dissapointing than when I found out about Santa or the Easter bunny.

  10. Intelligent Design is actually firmly rooted in biology. They believe that evolution is a valid phenomenon. Where they differ is whether or not someone is controlling it.

  11. It's not the study at college level but I think these people are still valid.

Here's the stories of a couple of people, one who lost his religion completely and another who stopped his Young Earth Creationist beliefs but is still Christian and tries to teach others the truth about evolution.

  12. I was the opposite:  I was an atheist who took religion classes in college (History of World Religions; The Bible as Literature; Psychology of Religion) and after studying religion came to the realization that I was right.  Religious beliefs are utterly unfounded.

  13. "Just because textbooks and teaches say the earth is billions of years old,etc... does not make it true. There is NO proof for Evolution at all."

You are very wrong. There is much proof of evolution, but you do not want to see it.

"Lee Strobel did and found proof for the Creator."

Yeah, I read one of his books... interesting how he did not ask a single atheist for their opinion. Just twelve Christians. Not loaded at all.
