Has anybody been skiing in Sauxe d'Oulx around the second week in january? I have read some bad reviews, re-lack of snow on pistes, slow lifts, and lift and piste closures. It seems really cheap to stay half board though. I'm planning to go there on jan 7th. Does anybody have any advice about Saux d'Oulx?

  1. We went there last year, 2 weeks before the Olympics started (end of Jan). Nice resort, decent nightlife, Brit friendly, but they hadn't had much snow and it's quite low altitude, what was left was I.C.E.Y, and hard with half the lifts and runs closed. It really dumped on about the 4th day, so we had 2 great powder days and mental whiteouts and a lot more lifts opened.

There's some great runs down through the trees back to the resort, often quiet and tranquil. But unless everything's open you might get a bit bored with just Sauxe.. On the other hand, if you're a good skier and the links are open you can do most of the Milky Way area (Sestriere etc.) and use the Olympic Pistes from 2006.

The lifts were upgraded for the Olympics, so they're not as bad as some old reports will make out, plus you can do daytrips to Serre Chevalier or Les Deux Alpes if it's not happening in Italy.

Just avoid the hotel that's next to Bandito's the biggest nightclub in town if you value your sleep!

  2. Was there a few years ago, if you enjoy partying then this is the place, it's where they send all the crazier reps.  Snow wise I agree with previous comment, it does get very icy and there was't much powder when I was there, good wide runs though and plenty of them.
