  1. Very quiet and romantic place - but .. sad!

  2. I was there in '68 didn't get to see a lot of the tourist stuff kept my face buried in the dirt most of the time from INCOMING

  3. i have a friend who came from there. very nice before the war. do not venture out alone at night. stay off paths not marked. there is still landmines in the area. but overall it is a cultural feast.

  4. I think that is a great place to visit, bacause this city is ancient capital of viet Nam. and it is a cultural heritage of UNESCO. U can visit Palaces,Thien Mu pogpda, Huong River...This is a ancient peace, beautiful city

    Have a nice trip

  5. hue should be real nce in a few weeks. make sure you take a river boat ride in the late afternoon .

  6. Was there for 10 days 2 years ago....agree with 1st answer...THERE ARE NO MINES WITHIN 100 MILES OF HUE...#2 is nuts.....While Saigon is HECTIC, and Hanoi is POLITICA, Hue is that wonderful combination of city/small town.

I wouldn't stay out past 11 or 12, mainly because the locals don't and any "action" is either the illegal kind, or it's in the hotels.  No locals allowed in hotel rooms.

The Perfume River is worth a short boat ride ----take it to the Pagoda and back.  Wander freely during the day....lots of cyclos to run you around...most speak at least some English....

Food is GREAT and CHEAP....beer and cigs about $.50...lunch is under $1, and unless you go to a FANCY restaurant, figure about $4-5 for a FANCY dinner at an ok place.

The Tet Festival just ended so everyone should be tired, but the weather will still be nice....about 70 F eve and 85 days.

If you're from US or Europe, pack VERY lightly and plan on buying a wardrobe to bring home....INCREDIBLY cheap clothes.

Hue is a World Heritage Site...treat it with respect and have a good time....

  7. Wonderful place to visit for a few days. The citadel / palace / city ruins were fascinating, the pagodas are lovely and it was a charming town when I was there. I suggest that you consider hiring a bike to get around though.
