I am having one done on Wednesday and Im quite nervous because I've never had an operation or anaesthetic before. Can someone tell me their personal experience? What is the pain like afterwards? How long does it last? I'm getting mines done becuse they think i have endometriosis, and they may burn it away in the process. Any experience with this as well? Thanks! :D

  1. Hi, its not that bad - honest.

With mine they went in through the belly button (I asume they do this with all) & afterwards it just feels like period pains for a while - a little uncomfortable.

Everything will be fine - Don't worry !

  2. i had mine done for gall bladder surgery its where they make small holes in where ever you are getting surgery  instead of a big incision its much better and you really have nothing to worry about promise its sounds like it is for the better

  3. I had a laparoscopy 5 years ago and i know you will be very nervous but don't be cos the medical staff will be complete professionals. They usually take you down to theatre where they put a line in one of your veins in your hand you will feel a scratch as they do this (they had to do it in my foot cos they had taken blood from my hands the day before and now i have 1 foot bigger than the other) they use that to administer the drugs to knock you out and that will be the last thing you remember till you wake up in recovery. When they do the laparoscopy they usually make the insision in your belly button so it leaves no visible scarring. You will feel quite groggy and feel like you have been in a deep sleep. They will keep you in until they think you are ready to go home. Yes it is painful afterwards. You will find it difficult to bend so best get someone else to help you put your socks on and help you get dressed. Your stomach area will be bruised for up to 2 weeks but it fades. Good luck and i hope this helps.

  4. I had laparoscopy in November for endometriosis and they ended up burning away some. It wasn't too bad. I was really nervous. The anaesthetic they gave me before surgery was good. It hurt a little when they gave it to me. Kind of like a burning sting. Don't remember anything after that till I woke up. When I woke up I felt like I was choking because of the breathing tube. My mouth was really dry. They wouldn't let me have anything to drink for about 20 min. I went to the recovery room and the nurses let me drink a lot of fluids. After I urinated they discarged me the same day. I was a little sore, nothing major and very bloated. I had two incisions. One in my belly button and the other below the bikini line. Plan on wearing stretchy pants for about a week. Didn't need a lot of pain medicine although I was prescribed Vicodin. Maybe used 3 pills. I was probably really sore for about 3 days. I think I recovered well because I didn't lay in bed all day. I got up and walked around a lot. Good luck! and don't worry....

  5. It is a simple procedure and you can go home the same day.

There is a little discomfort, but not bad.

I had one several years ago and the scars are so tiny you can't even see them.

  6. I had a laparoscopic hernia repair.  Never had a "real" surgery so have nothing to compare it to, but was outpatient.  Didn't use up all the pain pills they gave me, and was back to usual activities in about a week (a bit longer than most, from what I understand).  I WAS very sore the first few days, the Drs told my husband to not leave me alone for the first 24 hours.

  7. No worries!  You go to sleep (wonderful).  When you wake there may some discomfort but the painkillers are so good they take the worst away.   NEVER refuse the painkillers.  They are given to prevent pain and it is easier to prevent than waiting until you need the drug.   Go home and sleep again.  You will probably feel a bit tired  for a couple of days.  You may still experience some pain (nothing dreadful) but if you rest it will go.

    Good luck
